Are you someone who has a lot of dresses but still have nothing to wear? Ever wondered will this suit me after adding an outfit to cart? Will this V-neck look good on me? Oh, I can’t wear cut sleeves, my biceps are too heavy. Can I pull off flare jeans if I’m healthy? Keeping up with the trends is not easy let alone knowing if a particular trend will go with our unique (and beautiful) body shape. We believe that the love of dressing is about feeling great in the looks we love and feeling great about who we are.
So we created this handy guide to help you learn how to dress your body shape and play up your most favorite features with styles you have (or should have) in your closet. But first things first, do you know your body shape.
I am not going to talk you in difficult terms like hourglass, pear, apple. Yes, I know linking your body shape to a fruit or shape is not always ideal.
So, for the ease of understanding, let’s use flower names as a symbol of feminine beauty. Then, we will understand what your body needs.
ROSE: This is the most curvaceous body type, with a defined waist and hips. To flatter your figure, emphasize your waist with belts, peplum tops, or high-waisted bottoms. You can also choose clothes with fitted tops and A-line or full skirts.
TULIP: This body type is characterized by wider hips and a narrower waist. To balance your figure, draw attention to your upper body with tops that have ruffles, patterns, or bright colors. You can also choose bottoms that are fitted at the waist and flare out at the hips, such as A-line skirts or wide-leg pants.
LAVENDER: This body type has a straight, column-like figure with no clear waist definition. To create the illusion of curves, choose clothes that cinch at the waist, such as belts, wrap dresses, or high-waisted bottoms. You can also add volume to your hips with peplum tops or A-line skirts.
LILY: This body type is characterized by a larger bust and stomach, with smaller hips and legs. To balance your figure, draw attention to your legs with fitted bottoms and tops that skim the body. You can also choose clothes with vertical stripes or patterns to create the illusion of length.
MONGA: This body type has broad shoulders and a narrow waist and hips. To balance your figure, draw attention to your lower body with bottoms that are fitted at the waist and flare out at the hips, such as A-line skirts or wide-leg pants. You can also choose tops that are loose or flowy to create the illusion of curves.
But Ritika, I don’t want to get into these typical theories of understanding body types and I don’t seem to fit in any of these. Well, that’s ok! These body shapes are only a starting point to understand the basics. And, let’s be honest—most women are a combination of several. Even I am! It’s all about shifting the focus to a particular area that goes well with your body type and style agenda.
Don’t worry, finding the perfect fit is kind of our thing. Take our style quiz and schedule a Genie Session. We are ready to help you find something you love, something you can flaunt and also something is wearable and doesn’t just keep hanging in your closet.
Remember, these are just a few general tips. The most important thing is to find clothes that make you feel confident, stylish, elegant but at the same time comfortable.
